About the program

The Afterschool program at Chabad of Stockholm provides a valuable opportunity for Jewish children in the community to engage with their heritage and traditions. Founded in 2001 by Rabbi Chaim and Rebbetzin Mina Greisman, the Chabad Center has become a vital hub for Stockholm's Jewish population.

The afterschool program at Chabad of Stockholm has served around 30 students in the school year 2022-2023. Some of these students arrive organized for the afterschool with a bus from the local Jewish school, while others come independently from public schools. For many of these children, the afterschool program is their primary opportunity to connect with Jewish traditions and culture throughout the week.

The program provides a well-rounded experience for the children. They enjoy a nutritious lunch, engage in Hebrew language learning, participate in creative handicrafts, play games, and take part in various informal activities. The main teaching material used is the "Aleph Champ" book, which helps children learn to read and communicate in Hebrew. Additionally, the program incorporates other teaching materials that have been translated into Swedish over the years.

Currently, the afterschool program is facilitated by three dedicated teachers. There are two weekly sessions held for approximately 30 weeks per year, totaling around 60 meetings annually. With the support of Yael Foundation that began in August 2022, the program has experienced significant growth, with the number of participating children increasing to 50. This support has allowed for the expansion and enhancement of activities offered to the children on a weekly basis.

About the community

Over the past two decades, the Chabad Stockholm Center has expanded its activities to include a diverse range of Torah study programs, Shabbat and holiday programs, activities for school children, summer day camps, and other enriching Jewish programs. It has also become a welcoming "Home" away from home for Jewish tourists and visitors, offering kosher meals, prayer services, and Shabbat programs to cater to their needs.
