About the school

At the beginning it was a Jewish nursery but after few years, the association opened 2 classes of Primary school. Then the third and forth grade. Today our school goes until the 6th grade.The school’s main goal today is to expand and grow up to the 7th and 8th grade.Today 55 children learn at “Gan Shlomo”.

The school offers a comprehensive education program for children from ages 3 to 12, which includes a strong emphasis on Jewish studies, Hebrew language, and general academic subjects such as math, science, and literature. The school is administered by devoted principal Mrs. Carine Cohen.

Gan Shlomo is known for its warm and welcoming community, and it is a popular destination for Jewish families in the Lausanne area. The school and youth center are staffed by a team of experienced educators and volunteers who are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for children and teenagers to grow and learn.In addition to the academic program, the community youth center provides a wide range of activities and programs for children and teenagers in Lausanne, with the goal of fostering a strong sense of Jewish identity and community. These programs include holiday celebrations, social events, sports activities, and volunteer opportunities.

The youth organisation the CJJL is the Center for Jewish Youth in Lausanne. It is structured according to 4 age groups: the minis - Kids 3/5 years old, the Kids 6/10 years old, the Teenagers 11/13 years old, the Leaders / EDC 14/17 years old, and in addition to this the UEJL (Union of students Jews of Lausanne) - 18/26 years old.CJJL is the center of an active, united and dynamic Jewish youth concerned with perpetuating Jewish life in the city.The CJJL brings together more than 100 young people who participate in its activities throughout the year. Trips, outings, meetings, activities, facilitator training, creative workshops, living space, study center, weekends, debates and conferences - all these activities are a source of permanent fulfillment for all our youth.About 130 kids take part in summer camps of CJJL, some of them coming from Geneva, and around 40-50 kids in autumn and spring day-camps accordingly. These activities revolve around 4 major programs containing all the values that are dear to the CJJL: Judaism, Leadership, Community Engagement, Culture and Recreation.

Two projects supported by Yael Foundation are running under the supervision of CILV - the official Jewish Community of Lausanne and the Canton of Vaud. Yael Foundation is supporting the educational staff and the ongoing maintenance of both projects.

About the community

There are about 600 families in the Jewish Community of Lausanne, which means around 2000 members. Many of them are families that emigrated from Egypt and settled in Suisse in 20th century, some families came from France, Israel, the former SU and other countries.
