About the center

Alumim Children's Home and Social Rehabilitation Center for Jewish Children is a haven for children who have faced challenges in their young lives. Founded in 2007 in the beautiful suburbs of Zhitomir, Alumim is a second home for Jewish children from dysfunctional homes including orphans, those who have been abandoned or abused, and those who are destitute. The institution was founded and is being maintained by Chabad emissaries in Ukraine, headed by the Rabbi of Zhitomir Shlomo Wilhelm.

Alumim provides a warm and nurturing environment for these children, with a stunning, brand-new dormitory and a devoted faculty of teachers, counselors, and psychologists who are dedicated to the children's physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. The children are surrounded by a rich Jewish culture, which helps them connect with their heritage and find meaning and purpose in their lives.

In addition to providing a safe and supportive living environment, Alumim also offers a range of programs and activities to help the children thrive. Fun-filled summer camps and extra-curricular activities help the children develop their talents and interests, while medical assistance, meals-on-wheels, and financial assistance ensure that their basic needs are met.

Alumim is more than just an orphanage - it's a place where children can feel like they belong and where they are encouraged to reach their full potential. The faculty at Alumim work tirelessly to provide the children with the tools they need to succeed, from academic support to emotional counseling.

Thanks to the efforts of Alumim, Jewish children who may have otherwise faced a bleak future now have a chance to grow up in a supportive and loving environment. Alumim's impact on the children's lives is immeasurable, and it serves as a beacon of hope for the Jewish community.

About the community

After the breakout of the war in Ukraine in 2022, many kids were relocated to Israel together with the devoted educational staff. Today they are being integrated in Israeli educational frameworks, but still have strong connection to Alumim team.

Yael Foundation supported the Alumim infrastructure and educational staff (including complementary teachers and psychologists) in 2021 - 2023. In 2023, the grant was relocated to the Jewish Day School of Zhitomir.
